Role Overview
The Cloud Operations Engineer is responsible for ensuring stability, performance, security, and compliance of all cloud-hosted services. The role involves maintaining cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Heroku), supporting Salesforce integrations, and overseeing operational governance, including inventory, risk assessment, and system reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure Operations
- Manage, monitor, and optimize AWS, Azure, and Heroku environments.
- Implement auto-scaling, high availability, and performance tuning strategies.
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines for both Salesforce-related and non-Salesforce services.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cloud-related issues across environments
Service Inventory and Compliance
- Maintain a detailed inventory of all production services, including:
- Platform details (AWS, Azure, Heroku, Salesforce integrations)
- Technology stack and software versions used in each service
- Open-source license compliance and third-party dependency tracking
- Ensure all documentation is up to date for audit and compliance readiness.
Risk Assessment and Service Prioritization
- Perform risk assessments for each service focusing on:
- Trust: Customer data handling (in-transit, temporary storage, permanent storage)
- Availability: Impact of system unavailability or degradation
- Prioritize services based on risk and implement appropriate controls.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design for redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery.
Security and Compliance
- Conduct periodic security assessments and vulnerability scans
- Ensure authentication and authorization mechanisms follow best practices (SSO, MFA, RBAC).
- Maintain access control matrices — define who can access which services and data.
- Apply latest patches and security updates across all cloud components.
- Coordinate penetration testing (Pen Test) and remediation activities.
- Ensure compliance with internal and customer security standards.
Availability, Scalability, and Performance
- Maintain comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems using tools like CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, New Relic, or Datadog.
- Conduct load and performance testing to ensure system responsiveness under stress.
- Design and implement elasticity and auto-scaling policies to handle dynamic workloads.
- Define and track SLAs, SLOs, and error budgets to measure service health.
Cost Optimization and Reporting
- Continuously track, analyze, and optimize cloud costs across AWS, Azure, and Heroku.
- Implement resource tagging, budgeting, and cost alerts.
- Recommend rightsizing and lifecycle management strategies for cost efficiency.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
- Partner with Salesforce engineers, backend developers, and security teams to ensure reliability
- deployments and smooth release cycles.
- Develop runbooks, documentation, and operational SOPs for repeatable processes.
- Advocate for automation, observability, and operational excellence.
Common Business-related responsibilities:
- Maintain current on all assigned internal CQ training as assigned in the CQ-QMS.
- Comply with all internal CQ Quality and Information Security requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 2-3 years of experience in Cloud Operations, DevOps, or Infrastructure Management.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, and Heroku.
- Strong understanding of networking, IAM, load balancers, VPCs, and DNS.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates).
- Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
- Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps and secure deployment practices.
- Maintain current on all assigned internal training of the Company’s as assigned in the QMS.
- Comply with all internal Quality and Information Security Company’s requirements
- Any other duties as assigned
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Salesforce architecture, Heroku Connect, or Salesforce DevOps tools (Gearset, Copado, or DevOps Center).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Exposure to ISO 27001, SOC 2, or GDPR compliance environments.
- Cloud certifications (AWS SysOps Administrator, Azure Administrator Associate, etc.)
