About The Role

We're looking for a detail-oriented and client-focused Tax Accountant (Australian Tax Specialist) to join our growing tax team in Kathmandu. In this role, you'll manage a portfolio of tax clients, deliver accurate and compliant returns, and provide proactive tax planning strategies—especially for expats and overseas investors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and finalize Australian resident and non-resident tax returns
  • Advise clients on tax residency rules, foreign income reporting, and rental property taxation
  • Apply CGT rules, including main residence exemptions and cost base resets
  • Review client-provided financial documents (rental/property loan statements, etc.)
  • Communicate with the ATO regarding notices, assessments, and objections
  • Maintain accurate client records aligned with Odin's processes and compliance standards
  • Identify legitimate tax-saving strategies within ATO compliance rules
  • Support continuous improvements and contribute to knowledge base documentation

Requirements

Required Experience

  • Up to 1 year of Australian tax experience (resident or non-resident returns)
  • Strong knowledge of rental property taxation, depreciation, and capital allowances
  • Hands-on experience with ATO systems(prefill, notices, amendments)

Favorable Experience

  • Experience advising expats or foreign investors on Australian tax
  • Familiarity with double tax agreements (UK, US, Singapore, UAE, etc.)
  • Knowledge of land tax and state-based property taxes
  • Prior experience in a boutique or specialist tax practice
  • Exposure to automation tools (HubSpot, File Invite, Xero, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, or related field

Required Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian tax law (resident & non-resident)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for client interaction
  • High attention to detail with ability to spot errors in financial data
  • Strong time management and ability to perform under pressure (especially tax season)
  • Problem-solving mindset for resolving ATO issues
  • Proficiency with HandiTax, ATO Online Services, and Microsoft Office Suite
