Primary ObjectiveThe Senior Finance Manager is responsible for leading Award Global’s Kathmandu Finance Team and ensuring the accurate, timely, and well-controlled delivery of financial operations and reporting across the Group.
The role requires a hands-on finance leader who takes ownership of work, proactively identifies and resolves issues, drives tasks through to completion, and builds a disciplined and capable finance team. The position will strengthen financial controls, reporting quality, payroll and payment processes, budgeting, management analysis, and coordination between the Kathmandu office and the Group’s overseas businesses.
The Senior Finance Manager will also support the future development of Award Global’s finance outsourcing and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) capabilities in Kathmandu.
Key Responsibilities
- Finance Team Leadership
- Lead, supervise, and develop the Kathmandu Finance Team.
- Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, KPIs, deadlines, and quality standards.
- Allocate and prioritise work according to Group reporting and operational requirements.
- Review the team’s work and ensure all deliverables are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
- Coach finance employees and trainees to improve their technical capability, accountability, and commercial understanding.
- Conduct regular team meetings, individual performance reviews, and development discussions.
- Identify performance or capability issues and implement appropriate improvement plans.
- Build a proactive and service-oriented finance culture in which team members take responsibility for resolving problems.
- Develop succession and workforce plans to support the future expansion of the finance function.
- Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Review profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash-flow reports, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure balance-sheet accounts are regularly reconciled and outstanding items are investigated and resolved.
- Review journal entries, accruals, prepayments, provisions, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, and other accounting adjustments.
- Produce management reports with clear analysis of financial performance, risks, and significant variances.
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with external accountants and auditors and ensure requested information is provided on time.
- Support financial reporting requirements across Australia, Nepal, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and other Group locations as required.
- Budgeting and Financial Analysis
- Lead or support the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
- Work with department and business leaders to prepare realistic revenue, expense, headcount, and cash-flow forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and investigate material variances.
- Provide senior management with clear explanations and practical recommendations.
- Develop financial models and business cases for new branches, services, investments, and operational initiatives.
- Analyse business-unit, branch, project, and departmental profitability.
- Identify opportunities to improve margins, control costs, and allocate resources more effectively.
- Provide financial insights to support commercial and operational decision-making.
- Accounts Payable, Receivable and Cash Management
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Ensure supplier invoices, expense claims, payment requests, and reimbursements are properly reviewed and approved.
- Maintain an accurate payment schedule and ensure payments are processed within approved timelines.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and coordinate collection and follow-up activities.
- Oversee bank reconciliations and the maintenance of accurate cash records.
- Prepare cash-flow forecasts and identify potential funding or liquidity risks.
- Ensure payment files, bank details, and supporting documents are independently verified.
- Strengthen controls against duplicate payments, incorrect payments, unauthorised transactions, and fraud.
- Payroll and Employee-Related Payments
- Oversee finance-related payroll activities for the Kathmandu office and other assigned locations.
- Work closely with HR Operations to verify employee data, attendance, leave, allowances, bonuses, deductions, and final payments.
- Ensure employees are paid accurately, in full, and within required deadlines.
- Review payroll calculations and reconciliations before payment approval.
- Ensure statutory contributions, payroll taxes, and other employment-related obligations are accurately calculated and processed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality over payroll and employee financial information.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies promptly and maintain appropriate supporting records.
- Financial Controls and Governance
- Develop, document, and maintain effective financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Establish maker-checker and approval controls for payments, payroll, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reports.
- Ensure proper segregation of duties within the Finance Team.
- Monitor compliance with delegated authorities, budgets, contracts, and Group policies.
- Regularly review financial processes to identify control gaps, inefficiencies, or risks.
- Maintain audit-ready records and ensure documentation can be easily retrieved and verified.
- Investigate financial discrepancies and escalate significant issues to senior management.
- Support internal reviews, external audits, and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Tax and Statutory Compliance
- Ensure the Kathmandu entity meets applicable Nepalese accounting, tax, payroll, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Coordinate the timely preparation and submission of tax returns, statutory filings, and other required reports.
- Maintain supporting documentation for tax calculations and regulatory submissions.
- Work with external tax advisers, auditors, banks, and government authorities when required.
- Support the Group Finance Team with overseas compliance and reporting requirements within the position’s assigned scope.
- Monitor regulatory changes and recommend necessary updates to finance policies and processes.
- Intercompany and Group Coordination
- Manage and reconcile financial transactions between Award Global entities and business units.
- Ensure intercompany charges, service fees, reimbursements, and balances are properly recorded and supported.
- Coordinate closely with Group Finance, HR, Operations, and business leaders across different countries.
- Maintain clear communication regarding reporting deadlines, outstanding matters, and financial risks.
- Ensure instructions from Group management are translated into clear actions and completed by the Kathmandu Finance Team.
- Follow up proactively with relevant stakeholders rather than allowing unresolved matters to remain outstanding.
- Systems and Process Improvement
- Review existing finance workflows and identify opportunities for automation, standardisation, and efficiency improvement.
- Improve the use of accounting software, expense-management systems, payroll tools, and reporting platforms.
- Establish standard templates, checklists, closing schedules, and operating procedures.
- Improve data quality and reduce manual errors or duplicated work.
- Develop management dashboards that provide timely visibility of financial performance and operational issues.
- Lead finance-system implementation or migration projects when required.
- Ensure appropriate controls over system access, changes, and financial data.
- Finance BPO Development
- Support the development of Award Global’s future Finance BPO or outsourced finance-services capability in Kathmandu.
- Assess the team structure, technical skills, systems, controls, and training required to provide finance services to internal and external clients.
- Design scalable service-delivery processes for bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, reconciliations, reporting, and other finance activities.
- Develop service standards, quality-assurance procedures, turnaround times, and performance measures.
- Support the recruitment, training, and development of additional finance professionals as the BPO function expands.
- Assist senior management with service models, pricing considerations, resource planning, and implementation plans.
- Ensure any BPO services meet agreed confidentiality, data-security, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Senior Management Support
- Act as the senior finance representative in the Kathmandu office.
- Provide reliable financial advice and practical recommendations to Group management.
- Take ownership of urgent or complex finance matters and coordinate their resolution.
- Prepare financial presentations, reports, and papers for management meetings.
- Escalate significant financial, compliance, control, or cash-flow risks promptly.
- Complete special projects and other finance-related responsibilities assigned by senior management.
- Timely and accurate completion of monthly and annual financial reporting.
- Accuracy and completeness of balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Number and materiality of reporting, payroll, or payment errors.
- Achievement of month-end and management-reporting deadlines.
- Budgeting and forecasting accuracy.

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related discipline.
- CA, ACCA, CPA, CMA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is strongly preferred.
- At least 8 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including substantial experience in a finance management position.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing a finance team.
- Strong experience in financial accounting, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, tax compliance, and internal controls.
- Experience supporting an international group, shared-services centre, outsourcing company, or BPO operation is highly desirable.
- Experience working with Australian businesses or Australian accounting standards and practices is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience implementing finance systems, process improvements, or automation is desirable.
- Strong professional written and spoken English.
