Journalist / Journalism Intern

Nepal Acts is a media startup where we are aiming to democratize media and information in Nepal—creating a space where people can share their voices, perspectives, experiences, and stories.

We are looking for a Journalist / Journalism Intern who is curious about what is happening around them and wants to explore journalism beyond traditional newsrooms.

You will work with the Nepal Acts team to discover stories, verify information, interview people, conduct research, and create meaningful content for our digital platform.

What You’ll Do

• Research and identify important stories, issues, and developments from across Nepal.
• Report on local events, communities, social issues, public concerns, culture, environment, politics, and everyday life.
• Conduct interviews with citizens, experts, officials, and relevant stakeholders.
• Collect information from the field and through credible sources.
• Verify facts, photographs, documents, and claims before publication.
• Write news stories, explainers, features, interviews, and human-interest stories.
• Help develop stories from citizen submissions on Nepal Acts.
• Work with citizen contributors to improve and verify their submissions.
• Monitor current affairs, social media, government announcements, and other sources for potential stories.
• Capture basic photographs and videos when required.
• Collaborate with editors and the content team to develop stories from idea to publication.
• Follow responsible and ethical journalism practices.

• Has a strong interest in journalism, media, society, and current affairs.
• Is curious about people and their stories.
• Can ask good questions and listen carefully.
• Has strong research and writing skills.
• Understands the importance of fact-checking and source verification.
• Can distinguish between information, opinion, and misinformation.
• Is comfortable going into the field and meeting people.
• Can write clearly in Nepali and/or English.
• Is comfortable using digital platforms and social media.
• Has an eye for interesting stories that may be overlooked by mainstream media.
• Believes that ordinary people and communities deserve a voice.

A Plus If You Have

• Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, or a related academic background.
• Experience writing for a publication, blog, website, or social media platform.
• Basic photography or videography skills.
• Experience conducting interviews or field research.
• Knowledge of local communities, issues, and affairs in Nepal.
• Experience with citizen journalism or community media.
