GIS InstructorRole Summary
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic GIS Instructor to design and deliver practical, engaging training in Geographic Information Systems and spatial data analysis. The instructor will help learners build strong foundations in GIS software, mapping, spatial analysis, and real-world geospatial applications.
Success in this role means learners can confidently use GIS tools, create accurate maps, perform spatial analysis, manage geospatial data, and apply their knowledge to practical projects.
The role contributes to the organization by delivering high-quality technical education, supporting learner success, developing relevant course content, and maintaining strong industry-aligned GIS training standards.
- Plan and deliver engaging GIS training sessions for beginner to intermediate learners.
- Teach GIS fundamentals, QGIS, ArcGIS, spatial data collection, map design, and cartography.
- Demonstrate practical techniques for spatial data processing, editing, visualization, and analysis.
- Guide learners through hands-on exercises, assignments, and real-world GIS projects.
- Prepare lesson plans, presentations, demonstrations, datasets, and other learning materials.
- Evaluate learner progress through assignments, practical exercises, quizzes, and projects.
- Provide constructive feedback and individualized guidance to support learner development.
- Introduce learners to relevant geospatial technologies, workflows, and industry practices.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date course materials based on current GIS tools and practices.
- Support learners in developing portfolios and practical projects that demonstrate their GIS skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Strong practical knowledge of GIS and spatial data analysis.
- Proficiency in QGIS and/or ArcGIS.
- Understanding of coordinate systems, projections, spatial databases, and geospatial data formats.
- Knowledge of cartography, spatial analysis, and map visualization principles.
- Experience working with vector and raster datasets.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to learners with different levels of experience.
- Strong presentation, classroom management, and mentoring skills.
- Prior teaching, training, or professional GIS experience is preferred.
- Relevant GIS, Remote Sensing, or Geomatics certifications are an advantage.
