Location: Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal
Employment Type: Full-time, shift-based (Airport Operations)
Job Purpose:
To maintain, inspect, and service Air India's fleet of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) at Kathmandu Station, ensuring operational reliability, safety compliance, and audit readiness across all above-wing and below-wing ground handling assets.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct daily pre-operation inspections of all deployed GSE, including baggage trolleys, tractors, belt loaders (BFL), ground power units (GPU), pushback tractors, passenger coaches, and tow bars
Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and ensure flight-readiness
Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on GSE
Maintain individual vehicle logbooks, maintenance records, and servicing schedules for each unit • Ensure all documentation meets airline audit requirements and civil aviation safety standards
Coordinate spare parts requirements and liaise with vendors/workshops for major repairs
Support ramp operations teams to ensure GSE availability during peak flight schedules, including festival/peak season surges
Report equipment defects, near-misses, and safety concerns promptly to the Station/Ramp Manager
Ensure compliance with airside safety protocols (FOD control, ramp safety, PPE usage)
Qualifications:
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or Automobile Engineering) from a recognized institution
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering preferred but not mandatory
Experience:
Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience in vehicle/heavy equipment maintenance
Prior experience with airport GSE, automotive workshops, or industrial equipment maintenance preferred • Aviation/airside work experience an advantage
Key Skills:
Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
Working knowledge of preventive maintenance scheduling and logbook/record management
Ability to work rotational shifts, including early mornings, nights, and holidays
Physically fit for airside/ramp environment work
Basic computer literacy for maintenance record-keeping
Willingness to undergo airport security clearance (AVSEC/police verification) for airside access badge
Reporting Line: Reports to the Station Engineer / Ramp Operations Manager, Air India Kathmandu
