Job Description
The Channel Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, growth and operational performance of assigned YouTube channels across Music Nepal-owned channels and channels linked under Music Nepal's YouTube CMS. The role supports the YouTube Channel & CMS Manager by ensuring that each assigned channel is actively managed, correctly branded, regularly optimised, compliant with Music Nepal's CMS and rights standards, and aligned to release, catalogue and revenue priorities.

This is a channel-owner and execution role. The Channel Manager must manage multiple channels with discipline, maintain channel-level calendars and scorecards, optimise content and playlists, monitor performance, support Content ID and rights workflows, coordinate with artists or internal teams, and escalate CMS, revenue, access, policy or rights risks in a timely manner.

Reporting Line & Role Boundary

Reports To: YouTube Channel & CMS Manager.

Responsible For: Assigned Music Nepal-owned channels, vertical channels, catalogue channels and CMS-linked partner or artist channels allocated by management.

Decision Scope: Can execute uploads, optimisation, playlists, community posts, routine metadata improvements and approved channel-growth actions within SOP and calendar priorities.

Escalation Scope: Must escalate channel linkage or delinking, access-risk issues, copyright disputes, manual takedowns, sensitive artist matters, policy breaches, revenue-share issues and high-risk claims to the YouTube Channel & CMS Manager.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Assigned Channel Portfolio Management

Channel Ownership: Manage a portfolio of assigned YouTube channels, including Music Nepal-owned, vertical, catalogue, artist, label or CMS-linked channels as allocated by the YouTube Channel & CMS Manager.

Channel Register: Maintain an updated channel-level register for assigned channels, including channel name, URL, owner/contact, CMS status, monetisation status, upload frequency, responsible internal contact, access notes and key risks.

Channel Housekeeping: Ensure channel homepages, banners, profile icons, about sections, links, contact information, playlists, featured sections and branding are current and aligned to Music Nepal standards.

Channel Calendar: Maintain channel-specific upload and optimisation calendars aligned to new releases, catalogue priorities, festivals, artist campaigns, seasonal content and promotional plans.

Issue Log: Maintain an issue and action tracker for each assigned channel covering pending uploads, performance actions, metadata corrections, rights queries, comments, access issues and escalations.

Content Publishing, Metadata & Channel Operations

Upload & Scheduling: Upload, schedule, publish and manage videos, Shorts, jukeboxes, lyric videos, visualisers, teasers, trailers, community posts and other approved YouTube formats for assigned channels.

Metadata Accuracy: Ensure titles, descriptions, tags, hashtags, thumbnails, end screens, cards, chapters, subtitles, credits, copyright notes and links are complete, accurate and SEO-aligned.

Release Discipline: Ensure uploads go live at the approved date and time, with correct visibility, monetisation, thumbnail, playlist placement, premiere/live settings and cross-links.

Creative QC: Check thumbnails, Shorts covers, banners, video files, audio quality, titles and descriptions for accuracy, brand alignment and audience suitability before publishing.

Post-Publish Review: Check every upload after publishing to verify playback, monetisation, metadata, playlist placement, comment settings, end screens, links and any immediate claim or restriction issues.

Channel Growth, Optimisation & Catalogue Revival

Channel Growth Actions: Execute channel-specific growth plans set by the YouTube Channel & CMS Manager, including content packaging, playlist refresh, Shorts extraction, community engagement and catalogue resurfacing.

Playlist Management: Create, maintain and refresh playlists by artist, genre, mood, festival, era, theme, language, release campaign and catalogue priority to improve watch time and session duration.

SEO & Discovery: Apply keyword-led title, description, hashtag and playlist optimisation to improve search visibility, suggested-video placement and organic discovery.

Legacy Catalogue Revival: Identify older Music Nepal content that can be improved through metadata updates, new thumbnails, playlisting, Shorts cutdowns, pinned comments, community posts or campaign bundling.

Audience Retention Improvement: Review retention dips, low CTR, low watch time and underperforming videos and recommend practical improvements for packaging, content length, opening frames or playlist placement.

CMS-Linked Channel Compliance & Coordination

CMS Channel Compliance: Ensure assigned CMS-linked channels follow Music Nepal upload standards, branding requirements, metadata norms, rights rules, monetisation expectations and platform policy requirements.

Linkage Support: Support the YouTube Channel & CMS Manager with documentation, channel information, owner coordination and first-level checks for channel linkage, delinking or status review.

Access Hygiene: Monitor assigned channel access lists where visible, flag inactive users, ex-employee access, missing two-factor authentication, unfamiliar admins or recovery-risk concerns.

Partner Channel Review: Conduct periodic checks of assigned partner or artist channels to identify policy risks, unauthorised uploads, incorrect claims, wrong branding, duplicate uploads or inactive channel use.

Escalation: Escalate channel breaches, rights conflicts, suspicious activity, unauthorised access, monetisation changes, strikes, warnings or linked-channel policy risks immediately.

Content ID, Rights & Claims Support

Rights Check Support: Check that assigned uploads have the necessary release approval, rights notes, artist details, content information and internal clearance before publishing or escalating for claim action.

First-Level Claims Monitoring: Monitor assigned channels for claims, restrictions, blocked videos, ownership conflicts, monetisation issues, disputed claims and unusual Content ID activity.

Evidence Collection: Collect and organise screenshots, URLs, video IDs, asset details, rights notes, partner communication and upload records required for dispute, claim, release or takedown review.

Manual Claim & Takedown Support: Prepare first-level information for manual claims, takedown requests, allowlisting, releases or dispute responses, subject to approval by the YouTube Channel & CMS Manager and rights/legal teams.

Catalogue Gap Flags: Flag high-value content that appears unclaimed, incorrectly claimed, duplicated, missing reference coverage or not placed correctly within channel and CMS strategy.

Revenue Monitoring & Monetisation Support

Monetisation Checks: Monitor monetisation status of assigned uploads and channels, including ad suitability, restrictions, limited ads, blocked videos, missing claims and unexpected revenue changes.

Revenue Variance Alerts: Flag sudden drops or unusual spikes in views, revenue, RPM, CPM, claims, traffic sources or geography-wise performance for assigned channels.

Revenue Recovery Actions: Execute approved actions to improve monetisation, including metadata correction, claim follow-up, playlist placement, Shorts linkage, community promotion or dormant-content resurfacing.

Channel Revenue Tracking: Maintain channel-level revenue and performance snapshots for weekly reporting and management review.

Analytics, Reporting & Scorecards

Daily Monitoring: Monitor daily channel performance across views, watch time, subscribers, CTR, retention, traffic sources, top videos, Shorts performance, comments and revenue indicators.

Weekly Scorecard: Prepare weekly scorecards for assigned channels with performance summary, key wins, risks, underperforming content, top videos, next actions and support required.

Action-Based Insight: Translate analytics into practical actions such as title changes, thumbnail updates, playlist moves, Shorts creation, pinned comments, community posts or campaign retargeting.

Monthly Inputs: Provide clean and timely inputs to the YouTube Channel & CMS Manager for monthly management reports, revenue reviews, channel audits and CMS health reviews.

Artist, Label, Internal Team & Campaign Coordination

Internal Coordination: Coordinate with A&R, Content, Production, Social Media, Promotion, Radio, Artist Relations, Rights and Finance teams for release execution, asset readiness and campaign alignment.

Artist/Label Support: Support artist, label and partner communication for assigned channels regarding upload timing, metadata correction, claim queries, channel updates and promotional links.

Campaign Execution: Prepare YouTube assets, playlists, Shorts, community posts, premiere links and reporting inputs for release campaigns, festival campaigns and catalogue revival campaigns.

MOMO / Cross-Platform Support: Where relevant, coordinate YouTube activity to support Music Nepal's wider platforms, including MOMO OTT, social media, DSP releases, MNAV content and promotional partnerships.

AI, Unauthorized Use & Artist Integrity Monitoring

Unauthorized Use Search: Regularly monitor YouTube for unauthorised uploads, fake channels, copied videos, manipulated uploads, AI-generated videos, misleading remixes and misuse of Music Nepal catalogue.

Artist Integrity Flags: Flag content that disrespects artists, misrepresents original compositions, violates artist sentiment or creates reputational risk for Music Nepal.

Infringement Tracker: Maintain assigned infringement trackers with URLs, screenshots, channel names, content type, rights notes, action requested, action taken and closure status.

Escalated Action Support: Support claims, blocks, takedowns or partner communication as directed under Music Nepal's AI, Artist Integrity and Digital Rights Protection policy and SOP.

Audience Engagement & Community Management

Comment Monitoring: Monitor comments on assigned channels, identify audience sentiment, pin relevant comments, respond where approved and escalate abusive, risky, sensitive or rights-related comments.

Community Posts: Use approved community posts, polls, teasers, artist updates, festival messages and catalogue storytelling to improve audience loyalty and returning-viewer engagement.

Brand Safety: Maintain a respectful, brand-safe and artist-respecting environment across assigned channels.

SOP, Documentation & Administrative Discipline

SOP Compliance: Follow approved SOPs for uploads, metadata, thumbnails, channel access, CMS-linked channel checks, claims support, takedown support, reporting and escalation.

Record Keeping: Maintain clean records of uploads, approvals, metadata changes, channel actions, claims notes, partner queries, escalations and performance actions.

Responsiveness: Respond promptly to internal and external channel-related requests and provide clear status updates to the YouTube Channel & CMS Manager.

Ad Hoc Support: Perform other duties related to YouTube channels, CMS-linked channel support, digital promotion and content operations as assigned by the supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required

YouTube Platform Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of YouTube Studio, channel settings, upload workflows, Analytics, Shorts, playlists, community features and content optimisation.

CMS Awareness: Working understanding of YouTube CMS, linked channels, claims, monetisation, ownership conflicts and Content ID workflows, with willingness to learn advanced CMS controls.

Data Orientation: Ability to read performance data and translate it into practical actions for channel growth, retention, discovery and revenue improvement.

Music & Catalogue Understanding: Understanding of Nepali music genres, artists, legacy catalogue, audience behaviour and cultural sensitivities will be highly valued.

Coordination Skills: Ability to coordinate with artists, internal teams, partners and managers while maintaining deadlines, documentation and professional communication.

Attention to Detail: High accuracy in metadata, rights notes, upload details, thumbnails, links, playlists, reporting and issue tracking.

Education / Experience

Education: Bachelor degree in media, marketing, business, IT, communications, music business or a related field preferred. Relevant practical YouTube/channel experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.

Experience: 2-4 years of experience in YouTube channel management, digital content operations, music/media platforms, social media management, digital marketing or content operations preferred.

Tools: YouTube Studio, YouTube Analytics, spreadsheets, basic reporting dashboards, metadata trackers, asset folders and project/task management tools.

Languages: Strong Nepali and English communication skills preferred, with ability to write clear titles, descriptions, reports and partner updates.

Role Success Profile

The successful Channel Manager will be organised, detail-oriented, data-aware and proactive. They will treat each assigned YouTube channel as a business asset with its own audience, catalogue, revenue opportunity and rights responsibility. The role requires someone who can execute consistently, spot risks early, improve channel performance through practical actions, and support Music Nepal's wider goal of protecting and growing Nepali music across digital platforms.

The employee may be required to perform other duties related to YouTube, CMS-linked channel support, digital promotion, catalogue optimisation, reporting or platform operations as reasonably assigned by the supervisor or management.
