We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Associate Civil Structural Engineer to join our team at K&A Engineering in Sanepa, Lalitpur. Role Expectations
- Primary responsibility includes design and analysis of steel structures for substations such as gantries, equipment support structures, lattice towers, rigid bus supports, switchyard structures, transformer supports, and circuit breaker structures.
- Conduct structural modeling, load calculations (including dead load, wind load, seismic load, short-circuit forces, and equipment loads), and detailed design of steel members, connections, and bracing systems.
- Mandatory use of Finite Element Method (FEM) software such as STAAD.Pro (or equivalent tools like RISA-3D or SAP2000) for 3D modeling, analysis, and design of substation steel structures.
- Design of foundations for transmission structures as a secondary responsibility.
- Directly coordinate with the Senior Substation Design Engineer on all technical matters, design reviews, and project deliverables.
- Prepare detailed fabrication drawings, design calculation packages, material specifications, and bill of quantities (BOQ) for substation steel structures.
- Perform steel connection design manually using Excel or Mathcad.
- Prepare design calculations and reports as per client-specific standards and formats, which may vary from project to project.
- Coordinate with electrical and geotechnical teams to ensure seamless integration of steel structures with foundations and electrical equipment.
- Review shop drawings and provide technical support during fabrication and construction stages of substation structures.
- Conduct site visits, perform condition assessments, and provide recommendations for existing substation steel structures.
- Ensure all designs fully comply with applicable standards including ASCE 113, ASCE 7, NESC, AISC, and IBC.
- BE (bachelor’s in engineering) in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering with minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in the related field and a strong passion for design work (master’s degree in civil/Structural Engineering Preferred)
- Mandatory hands-on experience in structural analysis and design using STAAD.Pro or equivalent FEM software.
- Strong knowledge of steel design codes and standards (AISC, ASCE 113, NESC).
- Experience in performing steel connection design manually through Excel or Mathcad.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation for preparation of detailed drawings and details.
- Passionate to learn and work with software such as Hilti, IDEA StatiCa, or any other software as per client requirements.
- Experience or willingness to work with foundation design software such as STAAD Foundation Advanced, LPILE, MAFAD, or any other relevant tools will be an advantage.
- Experience in foundation design for transmission structures will be considered a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and directly coordinate with senior engineers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools and collaboration platforms.
