About this role/ Role Overview
Manage the modelling of marketing data in BigQuery and transform it into dashboards used by internal teams and clients, while automating data extraction and transformation processes using Python.
What you'll do
- Build and own our dashboarding in Data Studio — design reports that answer real marketing questions, blend multiple data sources, build calculated fields, and keep dashboards fast and maintainable rather than a sprawl of one-off charts.
- Model marketing data in BigQuery — write clean, well-structured SQL with consistently-named fields and documented metric definitions, so that dashboards and any conversational/AI querying layered on top return correct answers rather than confident-wrong ones. Build aggregated, query-optimised reporting tables; use partitioning, clustering, and scheduled queries; and keep an eye on query cost.
- Write and maintain Python scripts and automation — ingest data from marketing/ad platforms (GA4, Google Ads, Meta, and others), handle API auth (OAuth2, API keys), pagination, rate limits, and retries, and schedule jobs so reporting stays fresh without manual work.
- Keep the data trustworthy — add validation and basic monitoring/alerting so broken pipelines or stale data get caught before a stakeholder does.
- Document what you build — data sources, transformation logic, and dashboard definitions, so the work isn't locked in your head.
- Partner with analysts and account teams — translate reporting requests into data models and dashboards, and push back when a request would be better served a different way.
Must-haves
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer.
- Strong SQL, with hands-on BigQuery (scheduled queries, partitioning/clustering, cost-aware querying).
- Proven Data Studio work; being able to show real dashboards you designed and maintained, talk through how you built them and why.
- Python for automation and light ETL (e.g. requests, pandas), including pulling from REST APIs with authentication.
- Familiarity with marketing/advertising data, at minimum GA4 and Google Ads; ideally the broader mix (Meta, TikTok, DV360, LinkedIn).
- Clear communication — able to turn a vague marketing question into a data model and explain the result to a non-technical stakeholder.
Nice-to-haves
- dbt or Dataform for managing transformations as code.
- Data Studio Pro (managed dashboards, scheduled delivery).
- Awareness of Data Studio's newer AI features (BigQuery conversational agents, natural-language reporting), including how they're used.
- Connector tools such as Supermetrics, Fivetran, or Airbyte.
- Scheduling/orchestration on GCP (Cloud Functions / Cloud Run / Cloud Scheduler, or Composer/Airflow).
- Version control and basic CI for SQL and Python.
- GA4 / GTM implementation experience.
