Role Description:
The UK Senior Counselor will provide expert, career-oriented guidance to students seeking UK higher education opportunities. This full-time, on-site role based in Kathmandu involves conducting one-on-one counseling sessions, leading group information seminars, and managing proactive follow-ups with prospective students and their families. The Senior Counselor will oversee application preparation, documentation reviews, and coordinate with internal teams delivering IELTS/PTE classes, visa processing, and pre-departure orientations. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate student records, staying abreast of UK immigration policy changes, and representing the organization in marketing and outreach activities such as seminars, events, and digital campaigns. The role also requires mentoring junior counselors, upholding rigorous service quality standards, and serving as a brand ambassador for the organization.
Qualifications
Mandatory Requirement:
- Valid British Council UK Agent and Counsellor Certificate (active and within its two-year validity period). Candidates must be verifiable on the British Council’s public register of certified agents. This credential affirms the holder’s mastery of UK education structures, ethical counseling practices, and compliance with the National Code of Ethical Practice for UK Education Agents.
Essential Experience & Knowledge:
- Demonstrated expertise in UK higher education counseling, including strategic course selection, university matching, and long-term career pathway planning.
- Proven hands-on experience managing university applications, document verification (academic and financial), and stakeholder coordination.
- Thorough working knowledge of IELTS/PTE band requirements and UK Student Visa (including recent changes to dependent and sponsorship rules), with the ability to articulate eligibility, financial evidence, and compliance timelines clearly to students.
Core Competencies:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, capable of fostering trust with students and families from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Strong organizational capacity to manage a high-volume caseload, maintain meticulous digital records, and consistently meet strict application and visa deadlines.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in mentoring, training, or supervising junior team members, with a collaborative and supportive management style.
- Unwavering commitment to ethical student recruitment and adherence to the professional standards mandated by the British Council training framework.
Education & Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Management, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree or personal international education exposure is a distinct advantage.
- Prior experience in an education consultancy, university international admissions office, or study-abroad advisory role with a clear preference for candidates whose portfolio has been UK-focused.
