Job Description
Position: Induction Furnace Manager
Location: Pokhariya, Birgunj, Parsa, Narayani, Nepal
Reports to: Head – Meltshop
Role Summary
The Induction Furnace Manager owns the complete performance of the Steel Melting Shop (SMS) induction furnace operations, from heat planning to tapping, ensuring consistent achievement of production targets, optimal power consumption, and strict metallurgical quality control.
This role demands a hands-on leader capable of setting up disciplined furnace operations, stabilizing processes, and driving efficiency in a greenfield/startup plant environment. The incumbent will play a critical role in building systems, training teams, and establishing benchmarks for productivity, cost, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end induction furnace operations, including melting, refining, and tapping cycles
Develop and execute heat plans, tapping schedules, and furnace campaign strategies
Drive power panel optimization to achieve best-in-class energy consumption (kWh/tonne)
Ensure precise alloy addition control to meet required chemistry and minimize rework
Oversee charge mix optimization (scrap, sponge iron, alloys) to improve yield and reduce cost
Manage refractory lifecycle, including lining practices, performance monitoring, and procurement
Coordinate closely with charge preparation, maintenance, and quality teams for seamless operations
Lead shift scheduling, manpower deployment, and productivity management on the shop floor
Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and process issues affecting furnace performance
Establish and monitor process control parameters including temperature, slag chemistry, and melt time
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, improve yield, and stabilize operations
Ensure strict adherence to safety standards and incident prevention protocols
Maintain accurate production reporting, heat logs, and performance analysis
Technical Expertise Required
Strong hands-on experience in induction furnace operations (medium/high frequency)
Deep understanding of metallurgy: scrap behavior, alloying, slag control, and temperature management
Proven track record in power consumption optimization (kWh/tonne reduction)
Expertise in refractory management, lining practices, and campaign life improvement
Knowledge of furnace power systems and panel operations
Experience in charge mix design and yield improvement techniques
Familiarity with pollution control and compliance norms in SMS operations
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Achievement of daily induction furnace production targets
Power consumption (kWh per tonne)
Refractory cost per tonne and campaign life
Chemistry compliance rate (first-time right heats)
Tapping temperature accuracy
Reduction in downtime and process deviations
Improvement in yield and material efficiency
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
B.Tech in Metallurgy (preferred) or relevant engineering discipline
Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in induction furnace operations
Strong experience in:
o Refractory management
o Charge mix optimization
o Meltshop process controlPrior exposure to plant setup, commissioning, or startup operations will be a strong advantage
Leadership Expectations
Strong shop-floor ownership with a bias for action
Ability to build, train, and lead teams from the ground up
Decisive problem-solving in high-pressure production environments
High accountability for output, cost, quality, and safety metrics
Willingness to work in a startup plant setup with evolving systems and processes
What We Are Looking For
A results-driven furnace expert who doesn’t just manage operations but builds and stabilizes them—someone who understands the realities of the shop floor, can optimize every heat, and is committed to delivering consistent performance from day one.
