Position: Fiber Technician
Location: Birtamode
Job Description
Install, maintain, and repair aerial and underground fiber optic cables, demarcation enclosures, patch panels, termination points, and other FTTH infrastructure.
Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of single-fiber and multi-fiber optic cables, and carry out fiber termination activities in splice trays and enclosures.
Operate and maintain optical instruments and ODN products, including splicing machines, OTDR, power meters, FDBs, joint closures (JCs), PLC splitters, EDFAs, and related fiber optic equipment.
Conduct fiber testing using OTDR, optical power meters, and other diagnostic tools to identify faults, measure signal loss, and verify network performance.
Monitor optical network performance, fiber trunk links, and FTTH infrastructure, and coordinate with vendors or internal teams to resolve network issues.
Troubleshoot fiber optic faults, isolate cable breaks, replace faulty components, and restore network services within defined timelines.
Track optical signal strength and analyze the overall optical power budget to ensure efficient network performance.
Prepare BOQs, maintain network audit reports, and update GIS, Google Maps, or other geographical mapping systems for accurate FTTH network documentation.
Read and interpret network layouts, blueprints, and technical drawings, and maintain accurate records of cable routes, test results, and as-built documentation.
Coordinate with supervisors, field teams, vendors, and customers during installation, maintenance, fault restoration, and project execution activities.
Provide technical support during customer installations by routing fiber cables, installing customer premises equipment, and ensuring successful service activation.
Follow company safety procedures, quality standards, and operational guidelines while performing field activities.
Job Specifications
+2, Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Telecommunications, or equivalent technical qualification.
1 year of experience in FTTH, fiber optic installation, maintenance, or telecommunications.
Hands-on experience with optical instruments and ODN products, including OTDR, splicing machines, power meters, FDBs, PLC splitters, EDFAs, and fiber testing tools.
Good understanding of fiber optic transmission, FTTH architecture, ODN design, color-coding standards, and optical power budget analysis.
Ability to read network drawings, perform fiber splicing, testing, fault diagnosis, and preventive maintenance.
Basic knowledge of MS Office and GIS/Google Maps or similar mapping software will be an advantage.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in field environments.
Physically fit to perform fieldwork, including climbing poles, working at heights, and handling technical equipment.
Willingness to travel and relocate across Nepal as required.
Must possess a valid two-wheeler driving license and own a motorcycle.
Flexible to work in shifts and respond to emergency maintenance activities.
