Position: Field Specialist (Junior Technical Adviser) – Local Adaptation to Climate Change (LACC) Project

Duty Station: Nepal, Birendranagar. Project Support Unit office (PSU) with frequent travel to Project working Local levels in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces

Recruitment: International, employed by Cowater International Finland Oy

Supervisor: Team Leader/Chief Technical Adviser

Academic Qualifications: Masters’ degree

Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Finnish

Other criteria: Priority is given to candidates under 32 years old

Background

LACC is rural development project promoting sustainable and inclusive livelihoods and natural resource management in the westernmost part of Nepal. LACC is implementing its work by providing technical assistance and co-financing for local governments and communities in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, while supporting them to adapt to the impacts of climate change. The project covers various sectors, which include sustainable forest management, environment and biodiversity conservation, water resources management and WASH, climate-smart agriculture and livelihoods, value chains and business development, disaster risk reduction, renewable energy, governance, partnerships, and Gender equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI).

LACC is financed by the EU, Government of Finland, Government of Nepal, and local governments and communities in the project area. Cowater International Finland Oy is providing technical assistance to the project. The overall budget is 51 MEUR and the project lasts five years from 2024 to 2029, covering 41 municipalities in the two provinces. LACC is now searching for a Field Specialist to support in different project management and development activities, including but not limited to reporting, monitoring, communications, and partnership engagement. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a young professional to deepen their technical expertise on the project’s working sectors, as well as to strengthen their practical experience in field-level development cooperation and project management aligned with donors’ priorities. The detailed description of duties will be defined as per the selected candidate’s interests and experience, as well as the project needs. The position requires fluency in both written and spoken Finnish and English.

Professional Experience

• Minimum 2 years of work experience in fields related to environmental management, natural resource management, agriculture or forestry, cli­mate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, water supply or sanitation, engineering, international development, Gender equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), and/or other relevant fields
• Some experience in communications (both traditional and social media)
• Prior experience of working in developing country context(s) (either as a volunteer, trainee or in paid employment)
• Experience in working with different stakeholders in an international, multi-cultural environment

Duties

• Provide project management and development support by participating, for instance, in the monitoring and reporting of the project activities.
• Participate in the preparation of manuals, plans, guidelines, strategies, visibility materials, and other documents.
• Manage the project’s communications activities and channels (social media and website), implement and develop the communication and visibility strategy and action plan, and supervise the Communications Officer’s work.
• Develop and coordinate stakeholder engagement and partnerships with donors and international and local organizations.
• Support the teams in natural resource management, climate adaptation, and GEDSI sectors depending on the interests of the Field Specialist and the project needs.
• Any other duties assigned by Team Leader/Chief Technical Adviser.
