Role Overview

The In-charge – Filling & Packaging is responsible for the complete management and performance of the Filling & Packaging Department. This role carries full HOD-level accountability for production operations, manpower management, packaging material control, quality compliance, floor discipline, and operational reporting. The incumbent serves as the single point of responsibility for ensuring efficient filling floor operations, productivity, and adherence to quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Department Ownership & Production Management
  • Oversee end-to-end operations of all filling and packaging lines, including pouch filling, jar filling, and tin sealing across all shifts.
  • Establish, monitor, and achieve daily production targets to meet dispatch and business requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Process House HOD to ensure uninterrupted product supply to filling lines.
  • Plan and allocate manpower shift-wise based on production schedules and operational needs.
  • Optimize machine utilization and production efficiency while minimizing downtime.
  • Reporting & Management Information System (MIS)

Prepare And Submit Accurate Daily And Periodic Reports, Including

  • Daily Finished Goods (FG) Production & Dispatch Report to the Managing Director.
  • Machine-wise and shift-wise pouch filling efficiency reports.
  • Packaging material consumption reports covering production usage, damages, issues, and closing balances.
  • Daily damaged packaging material quantity reports.
  • Opening stock reports of unused packaging materials on the production floor.
  • Manpower reports detailing attendance, contractor workforce deployment, and overtime records.
  • Team Leadership & Floor Discipline
  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop operators, pouch machine operators, packing coordinators, and support staff.
  • Enforce attendance policies, shift discipline, safety compliance, and workplace housekeeping standards.
  • Coordinate with the HR Department regarding leave management, overtime approvals, and contractor wage inputs.
  • Conduct daily shift meetings and floor briefings to communicate production goals and resolve operational issues proactively.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Quality Assurance, GMP & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with prescribed fill weights, seal integrity standards, and labeling accuracy across all packaging lines.
  • Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) throughout the filling and packaging areas.
  • Coordinate closely with the Quality Control (QC) team for in-process inspections and quality checks.
  • Immediately identify, hold, and report non-conforming products.
  • Minimize packaging material wastage and damage through effective monitoring, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Material & Stores Coordination
  • Forecast and raise timely requisitions for packaging materials to prevent production interruptions.
  • Monitor floor-level stock of packaging materials and conduct daily reconciliations against consumption records.
  • Coordinate with the Stores Department to ensure material availability and inventory accuracy.
  • Report packaging material quality concerns and vendor-related issues to management and relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications & ExperienceEducation

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Food Technology
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering or related disciplines
Experience

  • 6–10 years of experience in filling and packaging operations within edible oil, ghee, vanaspati, FMCG, or related manufacturing industries (Mandatory).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory, team lead, or departmental leadership role.
  • Hands-on experience operating and managing pouch/sachet filling and packaging machinery.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of filling and packaging processes in FMCG manufacturing.
  • Expertise in pouch filling machines, packaging line operations, and production planning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and production reporting systems.
  • Sound understanding of GMP, GHP, fill-weight control, quality assurance, and food safety practices.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent reporting, analytical, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and achieve production targets while maintaining quality standards.
