Position: Research Technical Officer
Job Description
Position Overview:
This position will support the implementation of field and laboratory components of the study, in compliance with research protocols, biosafety standards, and ethical guidelines along with stakeholder management and field level biological sample collection
Key Task and Responsibilities:
Role Focus & Responsibilities
Conduct community-based screening of lymphatic filariasis patients
Collect blood samples from study participants and ensure proper labeling and transport
Coordinate with local stakeholders, health workers, and communities
Process and store biological samples under specified storage conditions
Maintain accurate field records and ensure quality and traceability of samples
Adhere to biosafety and infection prevention procedures
Coordinate with research officer and research team for smoother sample transport and processing
Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and approved protocols
Maintain confidentiality of participant information and research data
Work closely with the research team and supervisors to report progress and challenges
Prepare documents and support submission of study protocols for ethical approval to the Nepal Health Research Council
Assist other similar types of ongoing research study activities
Any other job as assigned by the line manager.
Job Specification:
Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a background/training in Medical Laboratory Technology
Experience
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in:
Field-based research or public health programs
Community screening and patient interaction
Basic laboratory procedures and sample handling Required Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of field research or laboratory research
Knowledge of biosafety and sample handling protocols
Familiarity with ethical approval processes and research governance
Good communication and community engagement skills
Ability to work in remote/community settings
Attention to detail and data accuracy
Teamwork and problem-solving skills
Additional Requirements:
Willingness to travel frequently to field sites
Ability to work in diverse and resource-limited settings
Ability to use data collection software like KOBO and REDCap.
Preferred
Experience in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) programs
Familiarity with lymphatic filariasis or similar infectious diseases
