Job Description

Position Overview:
The Assistant Chef supports the Executive Chef and kitchen team in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food. This role is crucial for maintaining kitchen efficiency, upholding food quality standards, and ensuring cleanliness and safety in all kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Chef in preparing and cooking meals according to recipes and quality standards.
  • Support in food prep activities such as chopping, marinating, portioning, and assembling ingredients.
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented in a timely and aesthetically pleasing manner.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring hygiene standards are met at all times.
  • Monitor food stock and communicate shortages or spoilage to the Executive Chef.
  • Follow proper food storage procedures and labeling systems.
  • Assist in receiving and checking kitchen deliveries for quality and quantity.
  • Help with kitchen cleaning tasks, including sanitizing surfaces, utensils, and equipment.
  • Comply with food safety, health, and sanitation regulations.
  • Step in for other kitchen staff when needed and support in busy service periods.
Job Specification

Education:

  • Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts, Food Production, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic food safety or hygiene certification is an advantage.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in a commercial kitchen or similar culinary setting.
  • Experience in assisting food preparation in a hotel, restaurant, or catering business preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Basic culinary skills and familiarity with kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
  • Good understanding of kitchen hygiene and safety practices.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
