Position: Manager – Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSE)
Position Summary
The OHSE Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace by developing and implementing OHSE systems, managing risks, ensuring legal compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. OHSE Systems & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and monitor OHSE policies, procedures, SOPs, and systems in line with applicable laws and standards.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and environmental requirements and coordinate with relevant authorities.
- Prepare and execute health, safety, and environment plans.
2. Risk Assessment & Hazard Control
- Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA/JSA) across all operational areas.
- Recommend and implement control measures for hazardous processes, materials, and work practices.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to eliminate or minimize risks.
3. Inspections, Audits & Monitoring
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify non-conformities.
- Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked.
- Monitor workplace conditions including ventilation, noise, lighting, emissions, and waste management.
4. Incident Management
- Investigate accidents and incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
5. Training & Safety Culture
- Lead safety inductions, training programs, and awareness initiatives.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and promote a strong safety culture among employees and contractors.
6. Occupational Health & Hygiene
- Monitor employee health and workplace hygiene, including exposure to dust, heat, noise, hazardous substances etc.
- Investigate health-related complaints and ensure compliance with occupational health standards.
- Develop and maintain industrial hygiene programs.
7. Emergency Preparedness
- Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct mock drills and ensure availability of firefighting and first-aid equipment.
- Coordinate with hospitals/medical facilities for emergency response and treatment.
8. Environmental Management
- Monitor environmental aspects such as air, water, and noise pollution.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and maintain records.
- Ensure timely submission of environmental compliance reports to authorities.
9. Contractor & Stakeholder Management
- Ensure contractor compliance with OHSE standards and safe work practices.
- Support line management in fulfilling their safety responsibilities.
10. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain OHSE records, audit reports, and compliance documentation.
- Prepare and present OHSE performance reports to management.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or related field
- Experience: 7–8 years in OHSE roles within manufacturing/industrial environments
- Certification: NEBOSH or equivalent certification preferred
- Other requirements: Knowledge of Nepalese Environment, Health & Safety laws, labor laws, and regulatory compliance
