Job Description

Objective of the job:

To plan, communicate, supervise and monitor all Construction and Engineering works of Community Infrastructures i.e. Schools and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) under Dhading Disaster Response Programme (DDRP) in Rural area of Dhading district.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Support designing Community Infrastructure and WASH construction project activities, detail planning and budgeting to carry out in the fields.
  • Responsible for monitoring and supervision of Community infrastructure and WASH projects
  • Carryout the detail Technical survey, assessment, design drawing and cost estimation of both infrastructure and WASH projects.
  • Support, train and capacity building of partner field staffs for effective project implementation.
  • Facilitation of technical training and workshops on Earthquake resilient technology and WASH software part.
  • Preparation of work schedule of the different construction projects
  • Providing Technical support to POs staff and ensuring timely implementation and quality of work.
  • Ensure construction safety of the construction works.
  • Ensure conformance to design specifications.
  • Preparation of procurement plan for construction materials.
  • Preparation of progress reports, Technical reports and monthly report of infrastructure and WASH projects.
  • Reporting to the Project Manager.

Job Specification
  • Minimum of Bachelor of Engineering in civil.
  • Minimum 2-3 year post qualification experience in construction sector.
  • Preferably experience in rural construction building techniques, and WASH sector.
  • Preferably experience in earthquake resilient construction techniques and details.
  • Ability to think methodically, plan and manage projects effectively.
  • Good Communication Skills in both written and verbal English and Nepali.
  • Good Interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Engineering Software (i.e. AutoCAD).
  • Skill to build effective working environment among wide range of stakeholders. Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to thrive in situation of change and uncertainty.

Approval to work in Nepal

UMN works in Nepal under a General Agreement and Project Agreement with the Social Welfare Council of the Government of Nepal. Both agreements are renewed every five years. These agreements stipulate the type of work UMN does, the areas where it works, and the way its funding is allocated.
Linkages and Associations

UMN is an active member of the Association of International NGOs in Nepal (AIN) and follows their Basic Operating Guidelines and Code of Conduct. UMN is also a member of the Micah Network Nepal.
Political stance

UMN is not associated with any political party. We respect the representative role of community leaders and politicians in society, and will seek their views and input. However, we will not allow any political group or party to direct or influence our activities and programmes.
UMN funding

UMN receives funding from international organisations, institutions, churches and individuals, from about 16 different countries. Much of our funding is designated giving. This means that it can only be used for the specific programme or project for which it has been given.
