Job Description

The Education Advisor will provide technical direction to the implementation of program activities and advocacy and networking efforts directed at decreasing financial barriers to education, increasing use of targeted non-formal education, increasing enrollment in early childhood education, increasing relevance of education, and/or improving equitable teaching practices. The Education Advisor will work with the project team, USAID, and partners to develop the detailed design and annual implementation plans, management and resources plans on all components related to the project. They will support FHI 360 and partner implementation to ensure quality and timely delivery and will support development and learning across the project team. They will oversee the quality of project activities and provide technical oversight/guidance. They will establish effective communication and coordination with relevant personnel from the Government of Nepal and local stakeholders, as well as existing FHI 360 staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party – Technical, and other team members as needed, participate in discussions with government stakeholders on policy and sustainable systems to reduce the number of out-of-school children and improve learning outcomes for marginalized students.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with governmental agencies, including national, provincial and local governments, donor and partner organizations and other NGOs to establish collaborative working processes, enhance quality and effectiveness of programming, and serve as a knowledgeable resource in the area of early childhood and inclusive education.
  • Lead the team of technical staff and partners working on education content, ensuring technical quality standards and appropriateness for context.
  • Provide capacity building through training, workshop, supportive supervision, onsite coaching and mentoring as needed for staff and partners.
  • Monitor and evaluate, through routine program data and site visits, the effectiveness of education-related activities and make recommendations for improvement to meet project goals, especially student learning outcomes.  
  • Represent the organization externally at professional meetings and conferences.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or Chief of Party or Country Director.
Job Specification
  • Minimum of Masters’ Degree in Education, international development or related field.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years’ experience working in support of planning, implementation and management of education programs, with demonstrated experience in working with marginalized groups in Nepal.
  • Demonstrated competencies in promoting inclusion and improving learning outcomes for marginalized students.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain productive working relationships with a wide network of partners and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID policies, procedures and approaches related to program design/implementation, budgeting and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali.
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally as requested 
  • Proven ability to coordinate with government stakeholders, as well as non-governmental organizations.
  • Fluency in English and Nepali required; knowledge in local language from Province No. 2, Karnali, and/or Sudurpaschim will add value.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently and effectively in in virtual/digital environment and in different time zones across the globe.
