An agreement between Nepal and UN's FAO 

Nepal, being an active member of Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO)of UN since  November of 1951, has signed an framework agreement today with UN's FAO namely  The Country Programming Framework(CPF) that outlines joint effort of Government of Nepal(GoN) and FAO to improve food and security in Nepal, whereas preserving and sustainably handling the use of natural resources.

 The Country Programming Framework(CPF) was signed by Mr. Shree Krishna Nepal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance of the Government of Nepal and Mr. Somsak Pipoppinyo, FAO Representative in Nepal and was witnessed by Mr. Chankrapani Khanal, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mr. Shakti Bahadur Basnet, Ms. Kundhavi Kadiresan, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific and Ms. Valarie Julliand, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nepal along with some senior government officials, development partners, representatives of Civil Society Organizations and private sectors.

The CPF stipulates to assist government achieve three prime goals and facilitate the delivery of three crucial outcomes. The first one being to enrich sustainable agricultural production and productivity, marketing and consumption, for the suppression of hunger and malnutrition. Following this, the second one addresses to boost natural resource management and agricultural production systems meanwhile making them more resilient to climate change and disasters. And the last one intends to eradicate poverty and also re-counts on inclusive and gender responsive livelihoods enhancement.

The CPF  is of paramount importance as it assist us to reach our critical global goal of SDG-2- the Zero Hunger Goal, which is a goal the countries of this world have pledged to reach by 2030.
