The System Support Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, reliability, and smooth operation of production systems, applications, cloud services, and infrastructure. The role focuses on proactive monitoring, incident resolution, system performance optimization, and supporting deployment processes. The engineer acts as a key contributor in maintaining uptime, responding to incidents, implementing fixes, and improving the overall operational environment. This position requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, hands-on knowledge of cloud and container technologies, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Qualification and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
2–4 years of experience in system support, production support, DevOps support, or SRE support roles.
Experience supporting production-grade applications, cloud environments, or infrastructure.
Proven ability to reduce incident resolution time (MTTR) and maintain system reliability.
Job Description
1. System Monitoring & Incident Response
Independently monitor production systems (applications, servers, databases, cloud, network).
Respond to incidents in real time, troubleshoot issues, and ensure quick resolution.
Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring incidents and recommend preventive measures.
Participate in the on-call rotation as the first responder for critical production outages.
2. System Support & Troubleshooting
Provide L2/L3 technical support for application, infrastructure, and platform-related issues.
Work closely with development, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure smooth system operations.
Identify performance issues, reliability risks, and recommend system improvements.
3. Deployment & CI/CD Support
Support CI/CD pipelines and assist with automated deployments.
Ensure smooth and stable release cycles with minimal downtime.
Collaborate with senior engineers to improve deployment workflows and automation.
4. Containerization & Infrastructure Management
Assist in containerizing applications using Docker and managing Kubernetes deployments.
Maintain and support infrastructure components including virtual machines, clusters, and storage.
Support Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
5. Monitoring, Logging & Observability
Maintain and enhance monitoring dashboards and alerting systems (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch, etc.).
Set up logs, events, and metrics to ensure full observability of production systems.
6. Disaster Recovery & Backup Support
Support development and testing of disaster recovery (DR) strategies and backups.
Ensure system redundancy, failover readiness, and data recovery processes.
7. Documentation & Team Support
Prepare system documentation, troubleshooting guides, and checklists.
Mentor junior trainees or support interns when required.
Required Skills
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of Linux/Windows administration.
Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Knowledge of containerization tools: Docker & Kubernetes.
Basic to intermediate understanding of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
Familiarity with IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation) is a plus.
Good knowledge of networking: DNS, load balancing, SSL/TLS, firewalls, routing.
Experience working with monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch).
Ability to script in Bash, Python, or Go for automation and troubleshooting.
