Job Description

Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is providing Technical Assistance (TA) to the Government of Nepal (GoN) for the implementation of the Trail Bridge Sub Sector Programme (TBSSP) and the Motorable Roads Bridge Programme (MLRBP) in Nepal.

The GoN manages trail bridge and motorable road bridge building in the spirit of the Constitution of Nepal. On behalf of SDC, Helvetas Nepal provides TA to TBSSP through the Trail Bridge Support Unit (TBSU), while CIAS-MEH JV provides TA to MLRBP through the Local Road Bridge Support Unit (LRBSU).

With the objective to support the development of inclusive human resources with the required competencies in bridge building, SDC intends to offer traineeship opportunities for Sub-Engineering graduates (diploma level) to gain first-hand experience on engineering and management in these two projects. In this context, TBSU/Helvetas Nepal invites Nepali applicants (fresh graduates of diploma in civil engineering) for the traineeship opportunity.  

Title : Trainee Sub-engineer - 35 positions

Purpose : Provide professional work exposure to the fresh graduates by providing guided work opportunity from the senior staff of TBSU and LRBSU. Get hands-on skill on trail bridge and motorable bridge survey, design, investigation, construction and have exposure in the field.

Qualification: Fresh Graduates of Diploma in Civil Engineering with keen learning attitude, sense of responsibility and sensitivity towards multicultural environment. No prior job experience required.

Duration: 9 months

Duty station: Provincial offices of TBSU and LRBSU with frequent travel to the field (70%). Deputation to the provincial offices will be as per the same origin province of the selected candidates and/or as per the requirements of the projects.

 

Major Roles and Responsibilities

The Trainee Sub-engineer will acquire in depth knowledge, skills and experience in trail bridge and motorable bridge building and s/he will be responsible to assist TBSU and LRBSU staff for:

  • ensuring that local and provincial governments construct trail and motorable bridges respectively as per their constitutional mandates
  • supporting provincial partners by co-working to provide technical assistance to the respective local and provincial governments
  • planning, budgeting, survey, design, estimate, construction, monitoring and supervision, quality control and quality assurance of trail and motorable bridges

It is mandatory for the selected trainees to complete the full traineeship programme.
