Job Description
As a Senior PHP/WordPress Developer, you will lead the development of custom WordPress solutions, including block-based themes and plugins built with Gutenberg. You’ll work with a global team to build fast, scalable, and future-proof websites for a range of industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop custom WordPress themes and plugins with a focus on Gutenberg blocks using React/JSX
- Build reusable, modular, and performance-optimised blocks using ACF Blocks, and native block APIs
- Implement backend logic using modern PHP (OOP, Namespaces, WordPress Coding Standards)
- Build scalable, maintainable, and SEO-friendly websites using custom post types, taxonomies, and meta fields
- Work with design and frontend teams to translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect websites
- Manage Git-based workflows and participate in code reviews
- Optimise websites for Core Web Vitals, accessibility (WCAG), and mobile responsiveness
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex bugs and performance issues
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to process improvements
Job Specification
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with PHP and WordPress development
- Strong knowledge of WordPress architecture, hooks, filters, and best practices
- Experience with WooCommerce, ACF, REST API, WP-CLI, and custom plugin development
- Proficient in MySQL, JavaScript (jQuery/Vanilla), and modern build tools (Webpack/Gulp)
- Familiarity with Git, Bitbucket/GitHub, and deployment workflows
- Understanding of SEO best practices, caching, and site optimisation
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)
- Bonus: Experience with Headless WordPress
