Job Description
IntroductionThe Biomedical Engineering Department at the Rastriya Awiskar Kendra (NIC) plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing medical equipment across Nepal’s healthcare system. The department has gained significant recognition for its ability to repair complex medical devices that are often deemed irreparable, thereby saving costs and improving healthcare delivery. The department’s work is highly regarded by both the government and the public, as it addresses a critical gap in the healthcare system by ensuring that expensive medical equipment remains functional and accessible to patients. NIC BME specializes in repairing simple to complex medical equipment using local expertise in the most cost-effective way and also helps in systematizing the management of medical equipment with its in-house proprietary Biomedical Equipment Management Software. NIC BME works in a not-for-profit method which is a cornerstone of NIC's principle attracting the healthcare institutions and the general public. NIC BME has worked with several reputed public hospitals as well as External Development Partners and the Ministry of Health and Population has assigned the repair and maintenance of medical equipment at 24 large hospitals and health academies throughout the nation to NIC BME.
Roles and Responsibilities
Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals:
- Work closely with doctors, nurses, and hospital administrators to understand their equipment needs and provide technical solutions.
- Train hospital staff on the proper use and maintenance of medical devices.
- Assess the condition of equipment and determine whether it can be repaired or needs replacement.
- Advise hospitals on the most cost-effective solutions for maintaining their medical devices
- Regularly inspect and service medical equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
- Identify potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.
- Conduct on-site assessments of non-functional medical devices in hospitals.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on a wide range of equipment, from simple tools to complex machines like C-arm devices and ventilators..
- Assist in the procurement of new medical equipment by collaborating with the hospital and their respective departments to identify needs and prepare technical specifications.
- Oversee tender processes.
- Participate in research and development projects aimed at improving medical technology and healthcare delivery.
- Explore innovative solutions to extend the lifespan of medical equipment and reduce costs.

- BE in Biomedical
- 3 years of working experience (in a hospital setting preferable)
- Strong desire to learn and solve problems and values knowledge and its application
- Ability to travel in short notices
