Job Description
About the Project:
We are developing a technical insulated jacket as part of our outdoor apparel line. We're seeking an experienced outerwear designer to support concept refinement, technical development, and creation of production-ready specifications for this exciting project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Refine existing outerwear concept with focus on technical performance and market positioning
- Create detailed technical drawings and specifications for insulated jackets and outerwear
- Develop comprehensive tech packs including construction details, materials, and hardware specifications
- Research and specify appropriate fabrics for harsh weather conditions (waterproof/breathable membranes, insulation materials, shell fabrics)
- Design functional features including ventilation systems, pocket configurations, hood design, and closure systems
- Collaborate with pattern makers and sample makers for prototype development
- Attend virtual or in-person fittings to assess fit and functionality
- Provide guidance on manufacturing processes and quality control standards
- Support sourcing decisions for zippers, hardware, and technical components
Job Specification
Required Experience:
- 1+ years of experience specifically in outerwear/technical apparel design
- Proven track record designing insulated jackets, winter coats, or similar cold-weather gear
- Deep understanding of technical fabrics including Gore-Tex, eVent, down insulation, synthetic fills
- Experience with outerwear construction techniques and seam sealing requirements
- Proficiency in creating detailed tech packs for overseas production
- Knowledge of performance testing standards for outerwear (water resistance, breathability, warmth ratings)
- Portfolio demonstrating successful outerwear projects from concept to production
Technical Skills:
- Expert knowledge of fabric properties, weights, and performance characteristics
- Understanding of DWR treatments, membrane technologies, and insulation systems
- Experience with outerwear-specific hardware (YKK zippers, snap systems, adjusters)
- Familiarity with outdoor industry standards and testing protocols
