Media and Communication Officer

The Human Rights and Justice Centre (HRJC) is a not-for-profit organization improving access to justice for victims of human rights violations in Nepal such as torture, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial executions and sexual violence. The HRJC provides legal assistance to victims regardless of their background, religious or political affiliation, litigates cases, develops local capacity and pushes the human rights agenda forward.

SCOPE OF THE POSITION

The Human Rights and Justice Centre (HRJC) is seeking a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of Media and Communication Officer.

The position is open for the Nepalese candidate initially for the period of one year with the possibility of extension depending upon the performance of the candidate.

The primary responsibility of the Media and Communication Officer contributes to lead and develop media engagement strategies and policies to increase the visibility of the HRJC’s activities.

The selected candidate will work in close coordination with the Executive Director of the organisation. The position may require traveling inside Kathmandu.

The placement of the Media and Communication Officer is expected in February 2022.

EDUCATION

A bachelor’s degree in media studies, Journalism, and Communication or a related field. Having a Master’s degree is considered an asset.

EXPERIENCE

At least 2 years of professional experience developing communication materials for different channels, preferably in the context of advocacy work.
Experience in managing social media platforms is required.
Previous experience of communication in the human rights sector is a strong asset.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETANCIES

In depth knowledge and understanding of key media, including audio, video, photography, and of the content development process. Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms. Good knowledge of digital media software. Proofreading and editing skills. Excellent networking, coordination and interpersonal skills. Creative and analytical in designing and implementing advocacy materials. Strong research and website management skills. Result-oriented actions.
