The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving premium-quality coffee, beverages, and light refreshments while providing outstanding customer service. The role requires technical knowledge of coffee preparation, attention to detail, and the ability to create a welcoming environment for customers. The Barista will ensure beverage consistency, maintain cleanliness, manage café equipment, and comply with food safety and hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation
- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based beverages, tea, and other drinks according to standardized recipes.
- Ensure consistency in beverage taste, quality, and presentation.
- Steam milk, grind coffee beans, and calibrate espresso machines for optimal beverage quality.
- Prepare cold beverages and specialty drinks as required.
- Ensure beverages are served promptly and accurately.
Customer Service
- Welcome customers warmly and provide professional service.
- Take customer orders accurately and recommend menu items when appropriate.
- Address customer inquiries and resolve complaints professionally.
- Build positive relationships with customers to encourage repeat business.
Operational Responsibilities
- Operate coffee machines, grinders, POS systems, and other café equipment safely and efficiently.
- Replenish ingredients, cups, syrups, milk, and other supplies throughout the day.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages.
- Assist in receiving and organizing deliveries.
- Support opening and closing procedures, including cash reconciliation where applicable.
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and café equipment regularly.
- Maintain cleanliness of counters, seating areas, and workstations.
- Ensure utensils and equipment are sanitized according to food safety standards.
- Dispose of waste properly and maintain a clean working environment.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations at all times.
- Wear appropriate uniforms and maintain professional grooming standards.
- Handle food and beverages safely to prevent contamination.
- Report equipment faults or workplace hazards immediately.
- Comply with workplace health and safety policies and emergency procedures.
