Project Manager — Bridges & Tunnel Project

The Project Manager is accountable for full project delivery-safety, quality, schedule, cost and stakeholder satisfaction. The role requires technical leadership for complex bridge and tunnel works, proactive planning and resource management, and direct engagement with the client (Nepal Army), subcontractors and authorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and direction to deliver the project safely, on schedule, within budget and to contract quality standards.
• Prepare, maintain and drive the integrated Project Execution Plan, detailed schedules (Primavera P6/MS Project), resource loading and recovery plans.
• Lead technical execution for bridges, tunnels, cut-and-cover, slope protection and river training works; review and approve construction methods, temporary works and sequencing.
• Manage project commercial aspects: cost control, forecasting, cashflow, variations, claims and approvals.
• Supervise and coordinate design, QA/QC, site engineering and construction teams; manage subcontractors and consultant performance.
• Ensure compliance with contracts (including FIDIC where applicable), client requirements, statutory regulations and environmental/social safeguard measures.
• Implement and enforce robust HSE systems, lead safety culture, incident prevention and emergency response planning.
• Identify, assess and mitigate project risks; maintain risk and change registers; drive mitigation and recovery actions.
• Coordinate procurement, logistics and mobilization for critical long-lead items and plant.
• Prepare and present regular progress, technical and commercial reports to senior management and the client, lead client liaison and stakeholder engagement.
• Ensure accurate documentation control: as-built drawings, construction records, testing reports and final handover dossiers.
• Mentor and develop the project management team; set KPIs and ensure accountability.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

• B.Eng / B.Sc in Civil Engineering (mandatory). Master’s degree or professional chartered status preferred.
• Minimum 20 years’ progressive civil construction experience, with at least 10 years in senior/project management positions.
• Demonstrable experience delivering major bridge projects and tunnels; direct experience with multi-bridge schemes (spans to 200 m, pier heights to 30 m) and river training/slope protection works essential.
• Proven track record on fast-tracks projects and/or security-sensitive/military-client projects preferred.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, large labour forces and multiple subcontractors under EPC or similar contract forms.

Technical Competencies & Skills

• Strong technical knowledge of bridge and tunnel construction methods, temporary works, formwork, falsework, geotechnical issues, slope stabilization and river controls.
• Proficient in project planning and scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project).
• Strong commercial, contract and claims management skills; familiarity with FIDIC contract provisions advantageous.
• Excellent leadership, decision-making and team management under high-pressure schedules.
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken) — able to prepare reports and lead client meetings.
• Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills; cultural sensitivity to Nepal/South Asia operations.
• Competent in risk management, QA/QC systems and HSE leadership.
• Proficiency with construction management software, Microsoft Office; knowledge of BIM is a plus.
