Inventory & Material Management
- Receiving & Inspection: Unloading, checking incoming materials against delivery notes/purchase orders, and inspecting for damage or quality issues.
- Stock Recording: Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records of materials received, issued, and returned using, stock registers, bin cards, or computer systems (MS Office).
- Issuing Materials: Distributing materials, tools, and consumables based on approved indents (requests) from site staff.
- Storage Organization: Arranging materials efficiently in the store or stockyard, ensuring easy access and proper labelling
Physical & Technical Skills
- Material Identification: Knowledge of common construction materials (e.g., steel, cement, timber, pipes) and tools.
- Safety Adherence: Following safety, health, and environment regulations, including the proper handling of hazardous or delicate materials.
- Housekeeping: Maintaining a clean and secure store area to prevent loss, theft, or damage.
Administrative & Soft Skills
- Data Entry & Reporting: Maintain and record daily/weekly reports on stock levels and consumption.
- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, vendors, and engineers.
- Attention to Detail: High accuracy in counting, recording, and inspecting items to avoid inventory discrepancies.
- Organization: Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage high-volume, fast-paced workflows.
Common Tasks ("Runner" Responsibilities
- Transporting materials from the storage area to the construction work points.
- Returning unused materials from the site back to the store.
- Collecting tools for maintenance.
