Job Description
We are seeking a qualified, dynamic, and student-centric Librarian to manage and develop the library services for both the school section and the +2 College section. The Librarian will play a key role in fostering a culture of reading, research, and information literacy among students and teachers, aligned with Nepal's National Curriculum Framework. This includes supporting foundational literacy, multilingual resources in Nepali and English, and integration of library activities into compulsory subjects like Nepali, English, Social Studies, and Life Skills, as per CDC and NEB guidelines
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day library operations including acquisition, cataloguing, classification, circulation, and shelving of books, journals, magazines, digital resources, and other materials.
- Develop and maintain a balanced, age-appropriate, and curriculum-aligned collection for school and +2. Prioritize multilingual materials in Nepali, English, and local languages to support CDC's emphasis on mother-tongue instruction and NEB's focus on practical application.
- Promote reading habits through storytelling sessions, book clubs, reading challenges, and library week activities tailored to Nepal's literacy promotion initiatives (e.g., inspired by Room to Read and OLE Nepal programs), targeting foundational literacy for younger students and research skills for older ones.
- Conduct library orientation and information literacy classes for students (especially Grades 6–12) on research skills, referencing (APA/MLA as per NEB guidelines), plagiarism avoidance, and effective use of online databases, aligning with CDC's continuous assessment and NEB's project-based learning requirements.
- Guide +2 students in NEB internal assessments, projects, and exam preparation (e.g., for Science labs, and Management case studies) by providing relevant reference materials, including resources on Nepal Studies and Life Skills.
- Implement and manage digital library services, e-books, online journals, OPAC, institutional repository, and educational platforms like E-Pustakalaya (OLE Nepal) or National Digital Library, ensuring access to curriculum-mapped interactive modules for core subjects.
- Collaborate with subject teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum, supporting CDC's student-centered learning and NEB's skill-based electives through co-planned activities like book-based projects on environmental studies or social issues.
- Maintain discipline and a conducive learning environment inside the library, promoting values education (e.g., via Living Values Education integration) and community outreach during non-school hours as per Nepal's school library guidelines.
- Prepare annual library budget, stock verification reports, and statistical reports on library usage, in line with MoEST reporting requirements.
- Organize inter-house/school literary events, quizzes on NEB/CDC topics, debates, and exhibitions, including partnerships with local organizations like Nepal Library Association (NLA) or Nepalese Association of School Librarians (NASL).
- Ensure safety and preservation of library materials; oversee binding and repairs when needed, with focus on culturally relevant Nepali texts.
- Supervise assistant librarians, library attendants, and student library monitors, providing training on information literacy and library management.
Job Specification
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library & Information Science from a recognized university in Nepal (e.g., Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University).
Minimum 2–4 years of experience as a librarian in a Nepali school or +2 college (experience in both basic/secondary and higher secondary setups preferred).
Proficiency in library automation software and digital tools, with knowledge of Nepali and English cataloguing standards.
Good working knowledge of Nepali and English (reading, writing, and speaking); familiarity with local languages desirable.
Desirable:
Certification in Digital Libraries, Information Literacy, or training from NLA/NASL.
Experience with CDC-mandated foundational literacy programs or NEB's project guidelines.
B.Ed. or teaching experience in core subjects like English or Social Studies.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong passion for promoting literacy in line with Nepal's National Education Policy goals, including multilingualism and experiential learning.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to engage students aged 6–18 in Nepali educational contexts.
Tech-savvy – comfortable with Google Workspace/MS Office, online databases (e.g., E-Pustakalaya, N-LIST equivalents in Nepal), QR-code catalogs, and ICT integration as per MoEST.
Organizational skills and attention to detail for curriculum-aligned collection development.
Patience, creativity, and a service-oriented mindset, with understanding of rural/urban educational challenges in Nepal.
Salary & Benefits
Competitive salary as per Government of Nepal scales (8th Amendment) or institutional pay matrix for private schools/+2 colleges.
Professional development opportunities, workshops or CDC/NEB training sessions.
