Job Description

The Mechanical & Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and optimization of mechanical systems and instrumentation within water supply and treatment projects. The role requires strong technical expertise in mechanical equipment, control systems, and plant operations to ensure efficiency, reliability, and compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical System Management

  • Operate and maintain mechanical equipment used in water supply and treatment systems
  • Manage pumps, motors, valves, blowers, compressors, pipelines, filters, and related systems
  • Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues such as leakage, vibration, overheating, and wear
  • Ensure proper alignment, lubrication, and performance of rotating equipment
  • Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of machinery
  • Monitor energy consumption and implement efficiency improvements
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and coordinate repairs/replacements

2. Instrumentation & Control

  • Install, calibrate, and maintain instruments (flow, pressure, level, temperature)
  • Manage water quality analyzers (pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, chlorine)
  • Operate and maintain PLC/SCADA systems
  • Develop, monitor, and troubleshoot control systems and automation logic
  • Ensure accuracy of measurements and system reliability
  • Monitor alarms and respond to operational abnormalities
  • Integrate new instrumentation with existing control systems

3. Plant Operation Support

  • Ensure smooth and continuous plant operation
  • Coordinate with operators and process engineers
  • Monitor system performance and optimize equipment operation

  • Support plant startup, shutdown, and emergency handling
  • Improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Follow and enforce safety standards for mechanical and electrical systems
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and water quality regulations
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures
  • Ensure safe handling of equipment and chemicals
  • Participate in audits and inspections

5. Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

  • Identify root causes of equipment and system failures
  • Resolve issues related to pumps, pipelines, instrumentation, and control systems
  • Minimize downtime through timely and effective solutions
  • Implement preventive and corrective actions

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain maintenance logs, calibration records, and technical documentation
  • Prepare reports on equipment performance, breakdowns, and system efficiency
  • Review and interpret technical drawings and documents
  • Develop and update SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Handle RFI reports and technical documentation

7. Project Coordination

  • Assist in plant upgrades, expansion, and improvement projects
  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and vendors
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, and reports
  • Ensure quality during installation, testing, and commissioning
Job Specification

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical/instrumentation field (west water treatment projects preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, instrumentation, and automation
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret technical drawings and reports
  • Experience in machine testing, RFI documentation, and reporting

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of pumps, piping systems, and fluid mechanics
  • Understanding of instrumentation and industrial automation systems
  • Familiarity with PLC/SCADA systems
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities

Language Requirements

  • Proficiency in English, Nepali, and Hindi
  • Chinese language proficiency will be a strong advantage
