Job Description

The Construction Laboratory Engineer will be responsible for conducting material testing, ensuring quality control, maintaining laboratory standards, and overseeing the performance of all laboratory operations related to construction materials. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in civil engineering and proven experience in hydropower or large-scale construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
Material Testing and Analysis

  • Conduct physical and mechanical tests on construction materials such as cement, concrete, aggregates, sand, and asphalt.
  • Ensure all testing procedures comply with recognized standards (ASTM, BS, EN, etc.).
  • Analyze and interpret test results to determine material suitability and compliance with specifications.
  • Identify material performance issues and recommend corrective measures.

Quality Assurance and Control

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all tests, reports, and related documentation.
  • Ensure precision, accuracy, and reliability in all laboratory procedures and testing methods.
  • Develop and implement quality control (QC) measures to ensure the consistency and reliability of materials used in construction.

Equipment and Laboratory Management

  • Maintain, calibrate, and operate laboratory instruments and testing equipment.
  • Oversee the procurement, setup, and maintenance of new laboratory tools and instruments.
  • Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for efficient and safe laboratory operations.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive test reports for internal review and external submission.
  • Maintain detailed records of test samples, data, and results.
  • Communicate findings, results, and quality-related issues to project engineers and management teams promptly.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train laboratory technicians and support staff.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry advancements, testing technologies, and best practices.
  • Participate in research and development (R&D) activities related to construction materials and testing methodologies.
Job Specification
  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in hydropower or large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to remote project environments.
  • Sound knowledge of laboratory testing standards, material behavior, and quality control systems.
