Job Description

The frequent carrying of heavy loads is highly prevalent in the rural, hilly areas of Nepal. The physical burden of carrying loads is a main cause for adverse health impacts such as pelvic organ prolapse. Women in rural areas of Nepal often lift weights beyond the capacity for adaptation. In addition, the lifting techniques they use (e.g. body posture, breathing) are not often not very economic.

In an intervention study, the University of Bern, Switzerland, in cooperation with the EAWAG, Switzerland and Dhulikhel Hospital will promote safe lifting and carrying behaviour in three villages in the Kavre and Sindhupalchowk districts of Nepal. The study consists of a baseline survey, followed by a behaviour change intervention (safe carrying behaviour) and a follow-up survey.

For the intervention we are looking for health professionals (nurses and physiotherapist) who can teach safe lifting and carrying behaviour to our participants. You will be trained by an international expert in these techniques.

Fieldwork will be between January and April 2022 and the health professionals are required to stay in the villages during the intervention. Accommodation for the team and breaks in Kathmandu will be organized.
