Position Title: Agro-ecology Coordinator
Duty Station: Kathmandu with frequent travels to project sites in rural areas (at least 60% of the time)
Placement: Hierarchically and functionally under the supervision of Country Programme Coordinator/ Managing Director
Contract Type: Part time; 60% engagement (180 days/ calendar year); renewable on annual basis - to be confirmed after one or two field visits; at least 110 days of field visits - negotiable depending on the ompetence
Remuneration: Negotiated according to the qualifications and experience within the organizations’ salary framework.
Start Date: Based on mutual agreement depending on Covid-19 lockdown - desk jobs may be started immediately. 


Job Description

Consultancy to Partner Organizations (POrgs) and knowledge management within the Country Coordination team:

  • Support the POrgs in launching projects with emphasis on AE as an approach for the target groups and help the POrgs to understand the actual and potential roles of AE for the target groups
  • Support POrgs in developing, stetting-up and managing interventions related to seeds, saplings, soil, nurseries, community awareness campaigns, trainings in line to AE principals.
  • Identify and coordinate trainings/capacity building needs related to AE for the POrgs (from experienced staff members to farmers)
  • Be in charge in the CP for knowledge and capacity management in agriculture and agro-ecology in particular, such as develop manuals of operations/guidelines for AE field intervention (seeds, saplings, soil), awareness campaigns, trainings for the CP and adopt it to suit Partner Organizations AE needs.
  • Establish links to institutions providing relevant AE support and data for small scale farmers.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems as it emerge through his/her knowledge or seeking support from elsewhere
  • Act as a focal point for any potential research project related to agro ecology.

Monitoring and Verification:

  • Ensure AE principals are met in the projects through monitoring, evaluation and verification of reports.
  • Support and accompany the partner organizations in developing and applying relevant monitoring systems.
  • Support partner organizations in the assessment and management of risks related to their project implementations in a timely manner.

Communication and Reporting

  • Ensure strong communication and co-ordination with partner organizations, target groups and key stakeholders related to AE and general issues relating to the CP
  • Analyse and comment all documents submitted by partner organizations to the Country Coordination Office and ensure they are in line with the practices, principles and policies adopted
  • Submit visit report to coordination office after each project visit (format to be provided)
  • Network with like-minded organizations in the field of AE in close collaboration with the Country Coordinator
  • Thematically contribute to the quarterly and annual reporting of the coordination office and support the coordination office in the elaboration of proposals for institutional fundraising and back-donor reporting

Country Programme Development and Evolution:

  • Contribute to the analysis of underlying causes of food insufficiency and place AE in the context
  • Support in the design, elaboration and evaluation of the Country Programme Strategy
  • Continuously assess major risks and follow developments in the context and the legal framework that affect agriculture and agro ecology in particular
  • Monitor the happenings in technical aspects of AE in Nepal and elsewhere including key policy perspectives periodically and brief the team
  • Contribute to the incorporation of climate change adaptation and mitigation elements as well as disaster risk reduction into the country programme and in AE aspects in particular
