Kalpavriksha is a social enterprise, established in 2011 by Sita Adhikari to provide access to life enhancing goods to rural communities through empowering women to become entrepreneurs. In 2011, a US based 501(c) organization called Empower Generation partnered with Kalpavriksha to support Sita to sell solar products. Kalpavriksha started as bringing life-changing products like solar lights, water filter and clean cook stoves to the people living in economic and energy poverty in Nepal's remote villages through its women led distribution network. The business grew successfully to include 22 women entrepreneurs plus a network of 300 sales agents across 11 districts by 2017. Since early 2017, Kalpavriksha decided to diversify the product mix to include items that will improve the lives of women and girls such as domestic appliances, personal health and hygiene and agriculture products
As of May, 2018, US based Empower Generation is merging with Australia based Pollinate Energy.
Both companies focus on sustainably tackling the world’s most formidable energy challenges in India and Nepal. As one organization, Empower Generation and Pollinate Energy will be able to provide even greater support to Kalpavriksha. As a result, we will be able to scale up the number of entrepreneurs we train, increasing our impact, and provide our network with international professional development opportunities and a chance to join a global distribution network. We will also be able to better fulfill our goal of empowering women entrepreneurs to establish businesses that serve the most marginalized communities by exporting our women-led distribution network model to India and engaging in knowledge sharing and best practices with our counterparts there.
