Job Description

Location: Kathmandu, Nepal, with travel to districts 
Department: Communications and Partnerships 
Report to: Communications and Partnerships Specialist  

Position Summary

Position Purpose: 

The Communication Officer will support in enhancing the capacity of key stakeholders in developing and using traditional and social media communication tools and methods to promote behavioral and attitudinal change for Countering Trafficking in Persons (CTIP) outcomes.  

Position Overview:  

The Communications Officer will be responsible for supporting in developing and implementing the project’s communication and outreach strategy and providing technical support to the project’s government, civil society, and private sector partners on communications and outreach. The  Communication Officer and will also oversee the project’s external communications. 

Job Specification

Branding and Marking: 

  • Support the Communication and Partnership Specialist to ensure that all project deliverables  for an external audience are appropriately branded and marked • Support the Communication and Partnership Specialist to ensure that all project staff and  partners understand and adhere to USAID and DFID’s branding and marking requirements 

External Communications :

  • Support to develop and implement a behavior change campaign for the project aimed at  addressing issues that will help to reduce human trafficking in foreign labor migration and  the entertainment sector 
  • Manage Hamro Samman’s social media presence and provide technical support to project  partners to build their social media presence 
  • Prepare the draft of the project’s external communication materials including social media  posts, press releases, taking photographs, banners, brochures, and promotional materials support to implement the project’s communication plan 
  • Liaise with media for having better coverage of the project activities 

Event Coordination:

  • Support the Communication and Partnership Specialist in coordinating high profile project  events ensuring their professionalism  
  • Prepare the draft of strategic talking points and speeches

Internal Coordination:

  • Assist the Communication and Partnership Specialist to provide training to staff and partners  on communications 
  • Identify upcoming communication requirements of the projects and ensuring that activities  are well documented and recorded 
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, quarterly and annual reports 
  • Support the project’s private sector engagement team and implementation of the private  sector engagement partnerships 

Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication and Journalism or similar disciplines or related field. 

Experience: Minimum 3 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations or  behavioural change communication. 

Computer/Technical Skills: 

  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Editor, Movie Maker and PowerPoint

Communication Skills: 

  • Good training facilitating and presentation skills 
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali 

Language: 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Nepali and English are required  

Required Travel:  

  • Readiness to travel

Position-Specific Skills: 

  • Knowledge of design, editing and visual communication experience 
  • Facilitation skills capacity building in communication, behaviour change, development  communications; targeting a wide range of stakeholders such as local NGOs, media  practitioners, youth groups. 
  • Knowledge of developing communication and advocacy plans, materials, and methods,  including monitoring the impact of these on target audiences. 
  • Experienced utilizing appropriate traditional and social media to achieve objectives • Experience or knowledge of human trafficking, labour migration and related themes preferred  

Physical Demands: 

  • Office environment with continual sitting including some travels to districts.
