The Social Policy Manager will work in the UNICEF Nepal Country Office, currently implementing a complex social protection programme and report to the Chief of Social Policy. EU, DFID, ILO and UNICEF have started collaborating to design and implement a joint UN-DFID-EU Social Protection Programme (2019-2022). This complements the ongoing efforts of UNICEF and other members of Nepal’s Social Protection Task Team. The Social Policy Manager will manage all aspects of this joint UN-EU-DFID Social Protection Programme.

How can you make a difference?

Nepal Country Office is looking for a champion to join the Social Policy team to lead the UN joint social protection programme. The Social Policy Manager will be responsible for the design, management and delivery of a new joint UN social protection programme. During the implementation phase, the Social Protection Programme Lead will be responsible for managing the programme, delivery of programme outputs, relations with government and donors and coordinating stakeholders to influence social protection policy. The post holder will also advise the Chief of Social Policy on the design, management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of all stages of social protection programing and related advocacy from strategic planning and formulation to delivery of concrete and sustainable results. Key accountabilities include:

  • Design and lead a joint UN social protection programme in Nepal.
  • UNICEF Programme Management of the Joint UN social protection programme.
  • Improving data on child poverty & vulnerability for increased use for policy and programme action
  • Strengthening social protection coverage and impact for children
  • Improving use of public financial resources for children
  • Strengthening capacity of local governments to plan, budget, consult on and monitor child-focused social services.
  • Strengthened advocacy and partnerships for child sensitive social protection policy.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have¦

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in one of the fields is required: Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of eight years of relevant professional work experience is required.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
