Job Description
- lead the development and implementation of an integrated environmental and social management system (ESMS) in line with international standards including ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001;
- lead the creation of an H&S risk and impact assessment procedure and train workers in high-risk areas;
- develop environmental management plans (EMPs) for construction and other activities as needed;
- monitor contractor implementation of HSE requirements and ensure compliance;
- oversee branch implementation of the ESMS with an emphasis on occupational health and safety;
- designate and train responsible contacts at Headquarters and branch offices where appropriate;
- drive the delivery and oversight of Environmental and Social action plans that have been agreed with investors;
- report and monitor HSE issues to the HSE Committee, Board of Directors, the broader Company and external stakeholders as needed in collaboration with relevant personnel;
- communicate regularly with investors who have interests in HSE aspects of the Company, coordinating and ensuring consistency in the delivery of monitoring;
- identify opportunities to reduce emissions and improve energy management;
- work with relevant colleagues to ensure robust engagement with stakeholders and communities.
Job Specification
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in a health, safety, environment role
- Masters degree completed or above
- Good working knowledge of Nepalese environment, health & safety and social legislation and associated permitting requirements
- Experience of managing high risk construction activities including working at heights, civil construction, interaction with medium and low voltage electrical distribution networks
- Experience of International Standards, including ISO14001, OHSAS 18001 and IFC Performance Standards
- Experience managing different stakeholders, including contract and permanent employees, management, and investors
- Business-level English proficiency
- Willingness to travel to regularly around Nepal
