Job Description

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support engagement and lead advocacy effort with GON including local government authorities. ·
  • Mainstreaming of GESI throughout the project design and activities. · Supporting the production of technical outputs. ·
  • Leading the design of community engagement approaches and activities. ·
  • Support in overall consortium and program management in closed coordination with the Team Leader. ·
  • Demonstrated strong team leadership capabilities, particularly with widely dispersed project teams

Other Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for ensuring GESI sensitivity and responsiveness in consortium activities. · Develop a project-level policy for gender and social inclusion in the project.
  • Develop and lead activities to ensure GESI is mainstreamed across the consortium. ·
  • Develop and lead activities to support GESI mainstreaming in Nepal’s DRM specifically focusing on urban resilience promotion. ·
  • Develop and deliver GESI-related trainings and awareness activities for key project stakeholders, including government agencies. ·
  • Support Team Leader in overall management of the project.
  • Support MEAL team members to accurately monitor, assess, and build evidence for the effectiveness of the project’s GESI-related activities.
  • Contribute to consortium policies related to safeguarding, child protection, DO NO HARM, and reduction of vulnerability to GBV and VAWG. ·
  • Participate in recruitment and induction activities to ensure awareness and sensitivity to GESI issues in project hires. 

VSO Duties 

  • Contribute key findings and learning on gender and social inclusion from the project to support the on-going development of VSO’s programmes.
  •  Attend periodic team meetings and report on project progress and activities.
  •  Learn and practice VSO’s organizational approaches to sustainable development – especially with regard to gender and social inclusion, resilience, social accountability, and youth engagement.

Volunteer Engagement & Support 

  • Contribute to the success of project volunteers by ensuring they receive technical, logistic and contextual support throughout their placements. ·
  • Ensure that the GESI-related expertise and inputs of volunteers inform project delivery, implementation and review. Other · Fulfil other appropriate level accountabilities as defined by the Consortium Team Leader and VSO Head of Inclusive Governance as required.
Job Specification

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and spoken English and Nepali language.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to influence and coach and ability to build partnerships and relationships in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Experience working cross-culturally, and understanding of issues of diversity.
  • Excellent presentation development and delivery skills.

Knowledge/qualifications/ Experience:

  •  Master’s Degree or equivalent closely related field.
  •  Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience working in issues related to DRM with focus on GESI in Nepal, at both national and local government levels.
  • Experience in designing GESI frameworks into development projects and ensuring that gender is mainstreamed throughout the entire project cycle
  •  Experience working with the Government of Nepal in designing related policy and strategy
  •  Experience in working with local Governments in Nepal to deliver GESI-sensitive and inclusive planning and development activities
  •  Experience working with local governments in designing related policy and strategy
  •  Experience in integrating GESI dimensions into disaster risk management efforts.
  •  Experience working in donor projects (USAID, World Bank, DFID, ADB, JICA)
